Dhanbad, Oct 2: Senior judicial and administrative officials of Dhanbad, on Saturday morning, took out Padyatra under Principal District and Sessions Judge Ram Sharma on the occasion of the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi and gave a message of non-violence to people.
This is the first time the officers have gone on a Padyatra to commemorate Mahatma Gandhi’s birthday. It began at the Civil Court premises and finished at the Gandhiji statue in the City Centre. Judge Ram Sharma presented a garland to Gandhi’s statue and urged the public to follow Gandhiji’s example of peace and nonviolence.
Though the Padyatra was organized on the directive of the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA), this march holds special significance for Dhanbad in wake of the death of ADJ Uttam Anand in a road accident three months ago.
“Amrit Mahotsav is being celebrated in the district from October 2 to November 14 on the directive of NALSA, which started with Padyatra from today. People should be aware of their rights and information about government development programmes in addition to following Gandhi’s path of peace and nonviolence. People who do not have access to information fail to get the benefit from it,” said Ram Sharma, who is also the chairman of the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA).
