Dhanbad, April 15: The Dhanbad POCSO court on Saturday awarded 20 years jail sentence to an accused identified as Rohit Goswami, resident of Tundi block, in a five-year old case of abduction and rape.
The Special Judge of POCSO court Prabhakar Singh while delivering the judgement in the case also slapped a fine of Rs 7,000 on the accused Rohit Goswami, besides 20 years of jail term.
The APP of the POCSO court said that the court had held Rohit Goswami guilty in the case on April 13 and reserved the announcement of the quantum of punishment for today( Saturday).
As per the FIR lodged by the father of the victim in Tundi police station on June 22, 2018, the accused took away his daughter at late night of June 18, 2018. He searched for her at different places and finally filed a complaint of missing at the police station.
The accused allegedly took her away to Giridih, Madhupur and Patna and raped her. Later he returned to Tundi claiming to have married her.
The police after investigation filed a charge sheet in the case on June 9, 2020. The APP said a total of seven witnesses were cross-examined during the trial.
