Dhanbad, June 3: The Dhanbad POCSO court today awarded life imprisonment sentence to one Uttam Modak, accused of raping a minor girl, some two years back.
The Additional Public Prosecutor (APP) said that Special judge of POCSO court, Prabhakar Singh while delivering the judgement today also slapped a fine of Rs 25,000 on the accused.
The court had held Uttam Modak guilty in the case on Friday and reserved the announcement on quantum of punishment for today.
However the court absolved Uttam Modak of the charge killing his wife. Two other accused of the murder case were also absolved.
On November 23, 2021 unidentified criminals murdered Pratima Dey, wife of Uttam Modak in the evening while she was going to doctor with her husband on bike.
The father of Pratima Dey filed an FIR in Baliapur police station against the son in-law and two others-Avinash Haldar and Vikash Roy-for killing his daughter under a conspiracy. He also charged that Uttam Modak had made illicit relation with his minor daughter and raped before eliminating his elder daughter.
The police filed a charge sheet in the court against Uttam Modak and said that he had got her murdered through contract killers.
The APP said total 15 witnesses were examined in the case.
