Dhanbad: NK Sinha memorial Chess tournament to start from Jan 22

Dhanbad, Jan 14: The Navin Kumar Sinha Memorial prize money one-day rapid chess tournament would be held at St Xavier’s School welfare centre Chaibasa of West Singhbhum on January 22.

Giving this information, the West Singhbhum District Chess Association general secretary Basant Khandelwal said that a total of 150 players of different age groups would be allowed to participate and the last date of entry in the tournament is January  18.

The total cash prize in the tournament is Rs 45,000 and the winner will be given a cash award of Rs 10,000 and a trophy. 

“The top 20 players of the tournament would be given cash prizes. Besides it, the best veteran, the best woman, the best-unrated player, under-7, under-9, under-11, under-13 and under-15 winner, runners up boy and girl would be also given awards,” said Khandelwal.

The general secretary said the entry fee is Rs 500 but for school students (till class X) it is only Rs 300.

Moreover, Khandelwal added that the tournament is sponsored by Grih Laxmi Sales and marketing every year. Due to Covid, the tournament could not be organised in 2021 and 2022 but this time it is organised at the state level.

Notably, Players of districts would be provided boarding facilities. 

Nitin Prakash, the district Olympic Association president would be the chairman of the organising committee of the tournament while Vishal Kumar Minj (FIDE arbiter), Arpit Khirbar, Sunil Sharma, Narendra Nath Pandey Jewel Gagrai,  Subrato Chandra Tripathi and Anant Lal Vishwakarma are members.
