Dhanbad, Feb 24: Dhanbad police have arrested five out-of-state criminals from the dreaded extortionist Aman Singh gang along with arms in connection with demanding extortion from traders of the district on Thursday.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Sanjiv Kumar said that the criminals were called in the district by local members of the Aman Singh gang for committing a major crime. But before they could commit the crime police arrested them in Katras.
The arrested criminals were identified as Ashish Gupta, Ajay Kumar Singh, Naval Sharma, Rahul Gupta and Mukesh Ray. Among them, Rahul Gupta had come out only two months ago from Banka jail of Bihar.
“Besides these arrested criminals police have filed an FIR against 15 criminals including Aman Singh and 10 others who are lodged in Dhanbad jail and had hatched a conspiracy behind the bars,” said the SSP.
The SSP further said that a special team comprising Additional Superintendent Manoj Swargyari, Baghmara SDPO Nisha Murmu, Bank More Inspector Pramod Kumar Singh and Katras Inspector Randhir Kumar was formed to nab the criminals after several traders informed that extortion was being demanded from them through WhatsApp messages and telephone calls in the name of Aman Singh.
“Some of the businessmen did not complain fearing criminal’s reprisal but police were monitoring their activities. However, in the course of the investigation, the special team after getting a tip-off raided their hideout and nabbed them while plotting the crime. One country-made pistol, four cartridges, four bikes and five mobile phones were recovered from them,” said the SSP.
