Dhanbad, March 16: Dhanbad police claimed to have busted a gang by arresting five road robbers, who were operating on inter-state GT Road ( NH-2), with arms ammunition under Govindpur police station of the district.
Senior superintendent of police (SSP) Sanjiv Kumar today told media persons that the arrested robbers moved on a car on National Highway-2 for the prey and pilfered diesel from the standing vehicles on the road at gunpoint.
“ They were arrested on Tuesday night while planning a robbery at Bhitia under Govindpur police station. Two cars ( silver colour Santro and Chevrolet Spark), 180 litre diesel, one country-made pistol and live cartridges were recovered from them,” said the SSP.
The arrested road robbers were identified as Pradeep Hazra, Om Prakash Rajbar, Dipak Singh Pankaj Mahto and Kalim Mian. The SSP said Pradeep Hazra and OM Prakash are history-sheeters.
The SSP said a special team was set up after road robbers looted diesel from standing vehicles at Mewat Hotel on Delhi- Howrah road under Govindpur police station on March 13. When the hotel staff protested, the criminals fired on them and fled.
The arrested road robbers admitted their involvement and informed that they had 12 members who were involved in road robbery on National Highway-2.
