Dhanbad, Oct 8: The Dhanbad police rescued four cows which were being smuggled at Maithon Tol Plaza near Jharkhand- Bengal border on Saturday and also arrested two persons in this connection. The Maithon OP officer-in-charge Balaji Rajhans said that cattle were being smuggled to Bengal from the Gaya district of Bihar. Notably, the Scorpio in which cows were being carried has a Ranchi registration number.
“Four cows were being carried in a car in which one was found dead. Legs of cattle were tied with rope and had been dumped in the seatless car. The remaining three cows were mulching and would be handed over to Katras Gaushal of the district after completing the legal process,”, said the police officer.
Notably, police arrested Scorpio drivers Gaisul Ansari and Arman Ansari on the spot and both are being interrogated about cattle smuggling and the mastermind of the syndicate. Police are also investigating whether the Scorpio number is fake or not.
Maithon OP said that they had not expected cattle smugglers could use Scorpio for ferrying cows to Bengal.
“Ten days ago, a container was seized at Toll Plaza carrying 35 cows to Bengal but we had not guessed they could use the car,” said the police officer.
He added that getting a tip off that cows are being smuggled from Gaya to Bengal on Delhi- Kolkata National Highway-2 and special checking of commercial vehicles started at Toll Plaza from early morning. In course of the inspection, a Scorpio was found brutally packed with four cows.
