Dhanbad, Nov 8: The district police have seized around 1.5 quintals of marijuana loaded in a truck from the Duhatand area under Dhansar police station and arrested two people in this connection.

Dhansar police station officer-in-charge, Jayram Prasad said that the police team seized the truck loaded with Marijuana packed in 30 sacks at night after getting a tip-off. The driver and his assistant were arrested on the spot.

Both the arrested people are being interrogated about the place where they had come from and where in Dhanbad they would have delivered the consignment. The market value of the seized marijuana is said to be around Rs 80 lakh.

“Police will make a detailed comment only after conducting proper investigation of the arrested people,” said Jayram Prasad.

According to the official sources, Dhansar region of the coal city, especially Manaytand, Gandhinagar, Chandmari, Barmasiya, Duhatand and other areas, have turned out to be the centre of Ganja (Marijuana) selling.

“These areas are under our scanner. Ten days ago police had arrested Rajiv and Babloo Chourasiya whose houses were raided in September and police had found the banned item on a large scale,” Prasad added.

The seized consignment is believed to have come from Nepal. However, a police official said that the matter is being investigated at the moment.
