Dhanbad, May 17: The Dhanbad rail division has collected a record amount of fines in a special drive against ticketless passengers in express and mail trains at several railway stations in the last 24 hours.

PK Mishra, senior public relations officer of the Dhanbad rail division, claimed that a special checking drive was conducted at the division’s Dhanbad, Gomoh, and Koderma railway stations from 7 p.m. on May 15 to 7 p.m. on May 16. A total of 1216 individuals were found travelling without tickets on various mail and express trains.

“Railway’s special checking teams realised Rs 7,44, 570 in ticket charges and fines from ticketless passengers,” the senior PRO stated by adding that the ticket checking campaign in trains would continue at other stations too.

The amount is said to be a record collection in two years after Covid. Though Dhanbad train division conducted a similar effort at many stations a few days ago, the fine collection did not reach Rs 7 lakh.

“The railway special checking teams realized Rs 7 lakhs, 44 thousands and 570 as ticket charge and fine from them. The ticket checking campaign in trains would continue at other stations of the division,” said senior public relation officers.

Though division officials denied the report, sources stated the Dhanbad division of the East Central Railway (ECR) Hajipur Zone had collected the most money from illegal travellers.
