Dhanbad railways collect Rs 1.72 cr fine from ticketless passengers in 23 days

Dhanbad, Nov 25: 39,752 passengers were caught without ticket in a 23-days special drive launched at different railway stations under Dhanbad Rail Division.

A senior official of Dhanbad Divisional Railway said that the special checking campaign was carried out from November 1 to November 23 in different trains during which, a total of Rs.1.72 crores were realized as fine.

The checking campaign was launched in five rail divisions; Dhanbad, Danapur, Sonepur, Samastipur and Pandit Dindayal Upadhyay (Mughalsarai). 2.28 lakh passengers were caught travelling without tickets in the trains. The flying squad has realized the highest collection of  fine of Rs 12 crores 97 lakh from them.

Railway officials said that a fine of Rs 3.89 crores from ticketless travellers was collected in Samstipur division where 59,844 passengers were caught.

Danapur division came second with catching 61,869 passengers and  collecting a fine of Rs 3 crores 61 lakh followed by Dindayal Upadhyay division which  collected a fine of Rs 1 crore  90 lakh from 34,131 passengers and Sonepur  division that collected 1 crore 85 lakh from 32,359 passengers.

“In comparison to previous month, railway increased 21.08 percent in collection from without ticket travellers. Last month, a drive was carried out from October 1 to October 23 in all five divisions and fine of Rs 10 crores 61 lakh were collected,” said a zonal railway official.
