Dhanbad, Oct 27: Brick-batting on an idol immersion procession of the Kali Puja committee triggered a clash between the members of two communities in the Pathaldih Loco Bazar area of Sudamdih police station, around 15.2 km away from district headquarters on the late evening of Wednesday.
Reportedly, six persons from both communities received injuries in the clash. Tension continues to prevail in the area since then. For precaution, police personnel of Jharia, Sindri, Bhowra OP, Bank More police station, Jorapokhar and Sudamdih were deployed to maintain law and order.
Sindri SDPO Abhishek Kumar, under whom the Sudamdih area falls, said that situation was completely under control and heavy police had been deployed in the area to monitor the situation. The meeting of peace committee members is also being organized to restore peace.
The trouble started when the idol immersion procession was going through the Idgah Muhalla from Loco Bazar. Members of the immersion procession alleged that as they reached the Idgah area, members of the minority community threw stones at them which triggered the clash. Besides brick-batting, members of minority communities also engaged in damaging the shops on the roadsides.
On the other hand, the minority community members alleged that provoking slogans were raised by the people in the procession and that triggered the clash. They alleged that as the procession reached Idgah, they began raising objectionable slogans and started brick-batting.
However, police were alert and having seen the situation going beyond control, they resorted to mild force to disperse the mob. Under police protection, the idol was immersed in the Perghabad pond.
SDPO Abhishek Kumar said that no one has complained about the clash so far. The police would initiate action against the persons involved in the incident only after getting a written complaint.
