Dhanbad: Sr professor of SNMMCH retires after 40 years of service

Dhanbad, Jan 31: The HoD of the department of gynaecology and obstetrics in Shahid Nirmal Mahto Medical College Hospital (SNMMCH), Dr Shashi Lal, retired today after giving 40 years of service

Notably, She served in the medical college for 17 years as a professor.

She started her profession as a medical officer in 1983 from Gopalgunj district (Bihar) and retired today from SNMMCH  Dhanbad in the post of HoD.

An emotional farewell was given on her retirement by faculty members of SNMMCH. 

The principal of SNMMCH Dr Jyotiranjan Prasad highly appreciated her contribution to the institution and said that she was a devoted teacher and doctor who adeptly handled departmental administration and pressure of patients.  She did not allow any controversy to crop up.

“We will feel her absence but I wish good luck to her in the next innings of life,” he said.

Dr Rajlaxmi Tubid, who became the new HoD of the gynaecology department said that Dr Lal was a very experienced and mature teacher as well as administrator and tackled the department and patients in a proper process. 

“The care of patients was her first priority. She visited patients daily and whenever any patient lodged a complaint, she along with subordinate doctors immediately solved it,” said Dr Tubid.

At the farewell function, all the teachers, doctors and HoD of different departments of SNMMCH were present. Dr Lal thanked all for assisting her in running the department.

Dr Lal completed her MBBS from Rajendra Medical College Hospital (now RIMS ) Ranchi in 1980 and post-graduation from PMCH Patna in 1986 in gynaecology and obstetrics. She joined Gopalgunj as a medical officer in 1983 and was transferred to Patna In 1988.

After Gaya and Dhanbad’s health department, she was put on deputation at PMCH Dhanbad in 1999. She also served at Hazaribag, Ranchi and Dhanbad before being appointed as an assistant professor in Patliputra Medical College Hospital Dhanbad in 2006 and later promoted to associate professor in 2011.
