Dhanbad, March 23: A class 10 student of De Nobili Sindri was allegedly beaten to death in the classroom on Wednesday.

Prafull Kumar, the father of the deceased, alleged that his son Ashmit Akash (15) died due to being badly thrashed by his classmates in the classroom.

A scuffle took place between Ashmit Akash and his classmates in which Ashmit got injured badly. He was taken to Shahid Nirmal Mahto Medical College Hospital (NMMCH) Dhanbad where the doctor declared him dead.

The CCTV footage of the school also showed that three students were beating Ashmit at around 10:23 am.

All three students involved in the incident have been identified, police official sources said.

“The Principal of the school called me informing that Ashmit’ has fallen ill. When I reached the school I found him unconscious. I immediately took him to the medical college hospital where the doctor in emergency declared him dead,” Prafull said.

Notably, the principal of the school Chandrashekhar Fransis in the initial stage informed media persons that the student fell in the classroom while changing his seat and got injured. But when police reviewed the CCTV footage, he refused to talk.

Getting information about the incident, Sindri deputy superintendent of police (DSP) Abhishek Kumar reached De Nobili School along with officials of Sindri Police station and began the investigation.

“Detailed information is being taken from the principal, teachers, students, and staff of the school. CCTV camera footage is also being watched. Only after getting details, I would comment on the incident”, said DSP Abhishek Kumar, who had been camping in the school till 5 pm.

The father of Ashmit alleged that some students in the school had been beating him for the last couple of days. “It is murder and action should be taken on students involved in it,” he said.

Prafull Kumar belongs to Odisha and is a senior officer in ACC Cement Sindri.
