Dhanbad, Sept 13: The Dhanbad POCSO court on Wednesday awarded 20 years jail sentence to a youth identified as Vikram Bhuiyan, resident of Kharikabad, in a two-year-old minor rape case.
The Additional Public Prosecutor (APP) told media persons that the court of POCSO special judge Prabhakar Singh besides 20 years jail term also slapped a penalty of Rs 12,000 on the accused.
The court had held the accused Vikram Bhuiyan guilty in the case on Monday and reserved the order on the quantum of punishment for today.
As per the FIR lodged by the victim’s father in Kenduadih police station of the district, the accused had called the girl through telephone on August 6, 2021, promising to get married and took her away to Kolkata. The accused kept her in a rented house there and repeatedly raped her. On August 22, 2021, Vikram returned to Dhanbad with the minor girl.
The police after investigation filed a charge sheet in the court on November 20, 2021. A total of six witnesses were cross-examined in the case.
