Ranchi, July 28: The dialysis facility at Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) is yet to start along the lines of OPD. This was agreed upon in the meeting of the Governing Board and was supposed to start in 2021. However, no step has been taken yet.

Although the technical resolution has been done about the tender, financial bidding has not yet been opened. The agency will not be selected until the tender for the financial bid is opened. After the issuance of tender, the responsibility of dialysis will be given to the outsourcing company at RIMS.

Through this, dialysis facilities will be provided to the patients for Rs 1,200 to 1,500.

One-time dialysis in private centres costs anywhere around Rs 2,500 to 4,000. With the installation of more machines, there will not be long queues for dialysis.

In Sadar Hospital, dialysis of patients is done for Rs 1,206 at the government rate. It is expected that the dialysis charges in RIMS will be similar.

For normal patients, doctors recommend one to two sessions a week. In such a situation, four beds are available for dialysis patients in RIMS. At the same time, some beds have been installed in the Trauma Center for immediate dialysis of patients.

On average, about 100 patients undergoing dialysis remain admitted in RIMS itself, while about 500 patients come every month for dialysis.

The number of kidney patients in Jharkhand is more than one lakh. Due to the lack of adequate treatment facilities in Jharkhand, patients have to go to different states for treatment.

Those who are financially stable spend lakhs of rupees for the treatment. In such a situation, when this facility starts in RIMS, patients will not need to travel out of the city.

According to sources at RIMS, a 20-bed dialysis unit will be started at RIMS soon. Outpatient treatment will be done on 14 beds. Four beds will be reserved for patients admitted to RIMS and 2 beds will be reserved for children.
