Mumbai, March 25: Digvijaya Singh, a senior Congressman, has chastised Vivek Agnihotri, the director of Kashmir Files, for his controversial remark that ‘Bhopalis’ are commonly mistaken for gays because of their ‘nawabi inclinations.’
Following the viral video of the interview, the director of Kashmir Files has been chastised for his remark.
“I was brought up in Bhopal, but I am not Bhopali. The word Bhopali has a different connotation. I will tell you in private or you can ask some Bhopali,” Vivek Agnihotri said and then adds, “If you call someone a Bhopali it means the person is homosexual and with nawabi taste.”
An interview on The Kashmir Files is included in this video. The remark was made in response to the use of the term Kashmir Hindu instead of Kashmiri Pandit. During the conversation, Vivek Agnihotri was asked about the debate over whether Kashmiri Pandits should be referred to as Kashmiri Hindus. According to Vivek Agnihotri, there is no solution to the debate because it depends on whatever word is used. Then he cited the example of Bhopali, saying that while the name originally meant something else, it is today used to refer to someone from Bhopal.
On Friday, Vivek Agnihotri met with Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, who pledged government support for the director’s proposal to establish a Genocide Museum in the state.
“Vivek Agnihotri ji, this could be your experience, but not that of the Bhopal citizens. I have been in Bhopal and with the people of people since 77, but I never had this experience. Wherever you stay, there’s always an influence of the company you keep,” said Digvijaya Singh on Vivek’s statement.
#KashmirFiles@vivekagnihotri https://t.co/L98WIQvgd2— Digvijaya Singh (@digvijaya_28) March 25, 2022
