New Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah strongly criticized Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge’s recent remarks, describing them as “distasteful and disgraceful.” Kharge, while addressing a rally in Jammu and Kashmir, had stated that he would stay alive until Prime Minister Narendra Modi is removed from power.
Amit Shah’s Response to Kharge’s Remarks
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Amit Shah expressed disappointment over Kharge’s comments, stating that they reflected the “hate and fear” the Congress harbors for Prime Minister Modi. “Yesterday, the Congress President Shri Mallikarjun Kharge Ji outdid himself in being absolutely distasteful and disgraceful in his speech. In a bitter display of spite, he unnecessarily dragged PM Modi into his personal health matters,” Shah posted.
Shah added that while Kharge harbors animosity towards Modi, the Prime Minister and the nation pray for Kharge’s long and healthy life. “May he live to see the creation of a ‘Viksit Bharat’ by 2047,” he said.
Mallikarjun Kharge’s Statement
The controversy arose after Kharge fainted during a rally in Jasrota, Jammu and Kashmir. After resuming his speech, Kharge stated, “I am 83 years old. I am not going to die so early. I will stay alive till (Prime Minister) Modi is removed from power.”
Kharge’s son, Karnataka minister Priyank Kharge, later posted an update on his father’s health, assuring the public that he was doing well after experiencing low blood pressure.
Nirmala Sitharaman Backs Amit Shah’s Remarks
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman supported Shah’s criticism, also sharing a post on X. She noted, “The leadership of Congress never loses an opportunity to display their hate towards PM Modi. We join in praying for the long life of Congress president Kharge ji and wish he lives to see a #ViksitBharat by 2047.”
PM Modi’s Concern for Kharge’s Health
Despite the political tension, Prime Minister Modi reportedly spoke to Mallikarjun Kharge over the phone to inquire about his health following the rally incident, expressing concern for his well-being.
