Raipur, Jan 12: In a disproportionate assets case, officials from the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) detained suspended Additional Director General (ADG) of the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB), GP Singh, from Gurugram, Haryana, on Tuesday. The IPS officer from Chhattisgarh is being transported to Raipur and will appear in court on Wednesday.
According to a statement released to the public by the Anti-Corruption Bureau, ADG GP Singh is refusing to cooperate with the inquiry.
“In EOW’s case number 22/2021 the accused suspended under the charges of Prevention of Corruption act sections 13b, 13(2) and IPC sections 201, 467, 471 ADG Shri G P Singh wasn’t cooperating in the investigation of the case and nor coming to EOW office”, said a official statement.
“He wasn’t given any relief by the supreme court as well. Today on 11 Jan 2022 EOW’s team took GP Singh into custody for enquiry from Gurgaon. He is being shifted to Raipur and will be produced before the court and before taking further actions,” the statement further read.
Notably, GP Singh, a 1994 batch IPS officer, was suspended in July 2021 after the ACB charged him with having disproportionate assets. For allegedly ‘possessing sensitive information’ and ‘inflammatory pieces of literature against the government,’ he was charged with corruption and sedition.
From July 3 to 7, 2021, the ACB conducted searches at 15 sites linked to Singh and recovered sensitive papers.
Singh allegedly possessed a confidential study of various public representatives as well as documents containing religious statements aimed to incite communal unrest and criticise the government, according to a FIR lodged by the ACB in Raipur.
Singh was previously the ACB’s ADG. He was also the Raipur Inspector General (IG). Singh was previously suspended on July 5, 2021.
