Dhanbad, June 5: Delhi Public School (DPS) Bokaro got the ‘Green School of the Year- India’ award at the Global Education Summit held in Dubai on World Environment Day.
DPS Bokaro principal Dr AS Gangwar received the award. A total of 985 schools from 57 countries had applied for this prestigious award in which nominations of 70 of them were selected in this Global Education Summit for the award. Schools from 26 countries were shortlisted for this prestigious award in 2023.
At the Global Education Summit Jasmin Delvic, Consulate General of the Republic of Croatia was present as guest of honour. László Márton, deputy of Mission, Embassy of Hungary, Abu Dhabi, and Khanlar Pashazde, Vice-Council, General Consulate of the Republic of Azerbaijan were present at the function as special guests.
DPS Bokaro was selected for this outstanding award for its extraordinary strides in slashing its environmental footprint and championing sustainable practices, from waste reduction to energy efficiency, water conservation to eco-friendly initiatives.
Underlining their exceptional dedication to sustainability and environmental education, DPS Bokaro launched a range of green initiatives, installed solar panels to generate renewable energy, set up a cutting-edge paper recycling unit, formed a formidable green brigade to safeguard the environment, and even installed bird feeders to invite our feathered friends.
The school adopted organic and nutrient-rich soil for their thriving gardens, initiated the “Save Soil” movement, and ensured environmental issues take centre stage in their curriculum, covering climate change, biodiversity, and sustainable living.
