Dhanbad, Dec 21: Dr AK Thakur from Dhanbad has been elected as the president of Otolaryngologists Association of Jharkhand- Bihar for the 2021-22 sessions. Another doctor of Dhanbad, Dr Ashutosh Kumar, was elected as the joint secretary.

Dr (Prof) Thakur, the head of the department ENT in Shahid Nirmal Mahto Medical College Hospital (SNMMCH) Dhanbad, was elected at the two-day 45th convention of the association concluded at Bhagalpur district of Bihar on Sunday evening.

After reaching Dhanbad, Dr Thakur said that he has taken the responsibility as a challenge and will work for increasing activities in Jharkhand – Bihar. His focus will be holding maximum medical camps in the tribal dominated villages/ areas so that tribal kids get ENT treatment at their door without going to the city based hospital.

He further said that he will try to arrange the Cochlear implant surgery for kids who are deaf by birth. He added that since the cost of surgery is very high (around Rs 7- 8 lakhs) which poor families cannot no afford, the association will help them to bail out from the problem.

Dr Thakur said that major complaints that come from rural kids are earwax and hearing loss. Through camps, the association will screen the kids and bring them to hospital for treatment whoever would be found affected. If needed, they will be treated at the super specialty hospitals too.

“Surgical workshops will be organized for junior doctors and academic activities will be increased in Jharkhand- Bihar,” said Dr Thakur.
He also informed that the 46th convention of  Jharkhand- Bihar Otolaryngologists Association will be held in Dhanbad.
