Jamshedpur, May 23: Police on Monday arrested five of the six assailants within 24-hours of the murder of a teenager at Mango.
The murder victim, identified as Gulshan Kumar Chaudhury, was killed on being attacked with knives, wooden logs and bricks at Road No. 14. The incident took place in Jawahar Nagar in Mango after his abduction from his house in Kaveri Road at Daiguttu under the same police station area on May 21 night.
Those arrested are drug peddlers and were identified as Mohammed Samsad, Pervez Ansari, Samir Ahmed, Mohammed Saqib and Danish Khan, all residents of Mango and adjoining Azadnagar area.
A sixth assailant Mohammed Imran who is the main accused has managed to abscond.
While arrestings the accused, the police have recovered blood-stained knives, bricks and wooden logs from their houses. Apart from these, the motorcycle of the victim, his cells and a pair of his slippers have also been recovered.
Revealing about the breakthrough in the murder, superintendent of police (City) K Vijay Shankar said that the murder was committed in sequel to a dispute over monetary transaction.
“The murder victim and the assailants were child’s friends, but the latter brutally murdered the teenager, Gulshan Kumar Chaudhury following a dispute over monetary transaction. We have already arrested five of six assailants involved in the murder. The sixth one, Mohammed Imran, will also be arrested soon, ” said Vijay Shankar while talking to the newsmen today.
According to police, Gulshan used to run a drug supply business along with the accused.
“As there was some amount due with Gulshan, some of the accused were chasing him from the amount. But on Saturday night, two of the accused visited Gulshan’s house and took him along with them. As the victim did not return home till late in the night his father Chandrasekhar Chaudhury lodged a complaint of abduction against the duo. Later on Sunday night, Gulshan’s mutilated body was recovered from a bush along road No. 14 of Jawahar Nagar,” said a police officer.
