Ranchi, Sept 5: The Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee University in Ranchi celebrated Teachers’ Day at the B Ed department. Chief Guest on the occasion was Vice Chancellor Dr Tapan Kumar Shandilya.
Initiating his remarks, Vice Chancellor Dr Tapan Kumar Shandilya said that the Guru Shishya tradition has been going on in India since ancient times. “Teachers and gurus have a high status in society. In India, a Guru is considered to be greater than God,” he said.
The VC further explained the meaning of a couplet by Kabir which states that if Guru and God are standing together, one should always praise the Guru first as they are the ones that tell the student of the importance of God.
Furthermore, he explained the meaning of the word ‘Guru’ (teacher) and said ‘Gu’ means darkness and ‘ru’ means the one who takes it away. He further explained and said a guru is the one that takes away the darkness and teaches us all that is to teach.
He further orated a poem on gurus and while explaining the meaning of the word ‘shikshak’ (teacher) said the one who removes our weakness, forgives our mistakes and takes us to the goal is the only teacher.
The VC further said that a teacher is a gift who always tries to give proper education to every one of his disciple without any discrimination.
DSW Dr Anil Kumar, B Ed coordinator Prof Rajesh Kumar Singh, along with all the teachers and students of B Ed department were present on the occasion.
