Moga: A Dubai-based labourer’s wedding turned into a nightmare after his bride, whom he had met on Instagram, went missing on the big day in Punjab’s Moga. Deepak, a 24-year-old from Mandiali village in Jalandhar, arrived with a lavish baraat of over 150 guests, only to find that the bride and wedding venue were nowhere to be found.
Deepak and Manpreet Kaur, the bride, had been in a long-distance relationship for over three years after meeting on Instagram. The couple decided to marry after coordinating over the phone and involving their families. The wedding was scheduled for December 6, and the groom, as per the bride’s family’s request, brought a baraat of 150 people to Moga city.
Bride Missing, Venue Non-Existent
Arriving at noon on the wedding day, Deepak and his baraat waited in vain for directions to the venue. Initially, Manpreet answered his calls, assuring him that her relatives would escort them to the venue. However, by 5 PM, she switched off her phone, leaving the baraat stranded.
Deepak later discovered that the supposed wedding venue, ‘Rose Garden Palace,’ did not exist.
Police Complaint Filed
Disheartened, Deepak approached the local police to file a complaint against Manpreet and her family. He revealed that he had never met Manpreet in person but had seen her photos on Instagram. She had claimed to be a lawyer with a lucrative job in Ferozepur.
Adding to his grievances, Deepak disclosed that he had transferred ₹50,000 to Manpreet for wedding expenses, a sum he now fears was part of a deceitful scheme.
The police are investigating the matter, which has left the Dubai-returned groom and his family embarrassed and heartbroken.
