Dumka: Accused who set girl ablaze arrested, victim referred to RIMS

Dumka, Oct 7: The accused, Rajesh Raut, who set a 22-year-old girl ablaze in the night of October 6 at Bharatpur village under Jarmundi police station of the district has been arrested by the police.

Meanwhile, the victim girl, Maruti Kumari, has been referred to Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Ranchi as her condition is critical.

Maruti, a resident of Bhairopur village under the neighbouring Jama police station of the district was staying at her maternal grandparents’ home when the incident took place.

Sources quoting the victim’s statement procured to the police in the presence of a magistrate at the Phulo Jhano Medical College Hospital (PJMCH) said that she was asleep after returning from the Dussehra fair in the night when the accused namely Rajesh Raut of Baliya village under Ramgarh police station of the district broke into the house and set her on fire and escaped.

Raut was Maruti’s ex-boyfriend who is already married and wanted to continue the affair with the victim.
