Dumka, Dec.27: Finger points have started being raised against the Dumka district police administration following the move of SP Ambar Lakda to fire the officer in-charge of Shikaripara police station Sushil Kumar in the backdrop of serious allegations that were levelled against him by the Deputy Commissioner Ravishankar Shukla pertaining to his alleged conduct of patronising the illegal mining of coal and stones and its transportation.
The SP issued a notification to this effect on Saturday, but Kumar was replaced by another cop, Nawal Kishore Singh, who was also fired by him just a few days ago on similar charges levelled by none other than Santhal Pargana Commissioner Chandra Mohan Prasad Kashyap of patronising land mafias while serving as the officer in-charge of the district’s Jarmundi police station.
DC Ravishankar Shukla had recently written to the SP for suitable action against Kumar who on different previous occasions did not support the officials of different government agencies including the district transport, mining and forest departments and block level officials during raids and inspections of illegal mining and transportation taking place in the Shikaripara police station area.
Shukla also wrote to the SP that the role of Sushil Kumar being the officer in-charge of the Shikaripara police station caused huge loss of revenue to the state exchequer.
The Santhal Pargana Commissioner, on the other hand, had also directed the Dumka DC and SP through the letter issued by his office on November 30 to respectively frame charges against the circle officer of Jarmundi and remove the officer in-charge of the local police station Nawal Kishore Singh after finding them to have been patronising land mafias attempting to grab the land of a complainant.
Experts said that both the ‘erring’ cops should instead be dealt with more stringent action for their official conduct being found against the prescribed obligations by the top most divisional and district level authorities including the divisional commissioner and the deputy commissioner themselves.
“Even though Sushil Kumar has simply been transferred to the police lines which is deemed to be punishment but what about replacing him with a cop equally carrying corruption charges levelled by the divisional commissioner himself only recently,” quipped a senior rank police officer preferring anonymity.
DC Ravishankar Shukla meanwhile said that the process of framing charges against the CO of Jarmundi was in compliance with such a directive of the Santhal Pargana Commissioner.
“The CO in question has been asked to submit an explanation pertaining to the observations made by the divisional commissioner for further recourse to comply with the directive of framing charges against him,” the DC added.
SP Ambar Lakda meanwhile could not be contacted for his version as to why another cop found guilty of patronising mafia elements by the divisional commissioner was posted to be the officer in-charge of Shikaripara police station which is otherwise considered to be a plum post.
