Dumka, Oct 27: One person died and several others sustained burn injuries in a massive fire that broke out after a tanker carrying LPG collided with a bus from behind along Dumka-Bhagalpur road near Kurmahaat village in Dumka on Thursday.

Notably, three other buses and a few thatched houses are also reported to have been gutted in the fire which was caused by the explosion of LPG carrying tanker that created a reign of chaos among the commuters and people sitting in a nearby roadside eatery.

It was only after fire tenders were pressed into service that the fire could have been doused with vehicular movement along the busy road.

Eyewitnesses said that the driver of the LPG-carrying tanker, who was believably drunk, was driving the vehicle recklessly and hit a bus which was parked along the roadside.

“The LPG-laden lorry which was heading towards Bhagalpur fell on its left side and caught fire immediately after hitting the bus,” Alauddin said, who also sustained burn injuries on his hands.

He said that fire tenders could only reach the spot after one hour of the incident and faced a tough time extinguishing the blaze having also gutted a few roadside trees.

“The driver of the tanker has died in the incident who is yet to be identified,” the Inspector said adding that the vehicular movement was resumed along the road.
