Dumka: Dy Mukhiya dies as truck rams into roadside crowd, several injured

Dumka, June 25: Organising a roadside celebration for winning the rural election proved costly to the Deputy Mukhiya of Raneshwar block of the district Ranjit Das proved costly to his life who along with a para teacher died and several others were critically injured when a truck mowed down them after the driver lost his control over it following the bursting of one of the front tyres near Masanjor police station of the district late last evening.

The deceased deputy Mukhiya was elected on the post the same day on Friday who along with his supporters was reportedly partying along the roadside when they were rammed by a moving truck having gone adrift and losing control after one of the front tyres suddenly burst.

Another deceased who is a para teacher has been identified as Little Pandey residing in Nahar Park locality of the sub-capital town.

 

Relatives and friends of injured persons gather at PJMCH

Nearly one dozen roadside revellers having received injuries in the incident were rushed to the Phulo Jhano Medical College and Hospital (PJMCH) where both the deputy Mukhiya and the para teacher were declared brought dead. Five injured persons were referred to the outside hospital considering the criticality of their injuries.

“The condition of three out of the five referred persons is very critical,” one of the attending doctors said adding five others were still being treated at the PJMCH.

Another truck coming behind the ill-fated vehicle also lost control and rammed into the boundary wall of the Masanjor police station and damaged a parked Mahendra Scorpio, a seven-seater SUV which was fortunately empty by the time the incident took place.

Furious over the incident, a group of bystanders took hold of the driver and severity beaten up before the police could rescue him and took to the PJMCH.
