EAM S Jaishankar meets Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh counterparts

New Delhi, March 29: On the sidelines of the BIMSTEC Ministerial Conference on Tuesday, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar met with his Nepali and Bhutanese counterparts to discuss cooperation in connectivity, energy, and hydropower projects.

“Good to meet FM Narayan Khadka of Nepal on the sidelines of the BIMSTEC Ministerial. Discussed our cooperation in connectivity, energy, fertilizers, health and power. Agreed to focus on taking forward the Ramayan circuit,” Jaishankar tweeted.

On Tuesday, Jaishankar spoke at the 18th BIMSTEC Ministerial Meeting in Colombo, stressing the importance of BIMSTEC member states working together to combat terrorism and violent extremism. He also emphasised India’s commitment to intensify and expand cooperation in areas such as connectivity, energy, and maritime.

EAM also met the Bhutanese Foreign Minister and discussed various projects and initiatives.

“Pleasure as always to see @FMBhutan. Discussed our long-standing cooperation in the hydropower sector. Reviewed various other projects and initiatives. Spoke about the Bhutanese talent I saw recently in our training institutions. Look forward to continuing our engagement,” he tweeted.

He also met Bangladesh Foreign Minister and invited him to visit India.

On Monday, Jaishankar arrived in Sri Lanka and conducted bilateral talks with the country’s top officials. This is his first visit to Sri Lanka after India granted an economic aid package to help the island nation recover from its current economic crisis.

Notably, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Thailand, Nepal, and Bhutan are all members of the BIMSTEC, in addition to India and Sri Lanka.
