New Delhi, Oct 22: An earthquake of 5.3 magnitude on the Richter Scale occurred in Nepal’s capital Kathmandu on Sunday, according to the National Center for Seismology (NCS).
The earthquake occurred at 7.39 am.
There is no information about any casualties due to this earthquake.
The earthquake occurred on Sunday at 07:24 am (IST) at a depth of 10 kilometres, the NCS stated.
The NCS posted on X, “Earthquake of Magnitude:5.3, Occurred on 22-10-2023, 07:24:20 IST, Lat: 27.92 & Long: 84.71, Depth: 10 Km.”

Notably, earthquakes occur frequently in Nepal. Nepal is situated on the mountain range where the Tibetan and Indian tectonic plates meet and every century they move about two meters closer to each other, resulting in pressure and earthquakes.
