New Delhi, Oct 11: The West Bengal teacher’s recruitment scam led to the Tuesday arrest of Trinamool Congress MLA Manik Bhattacharya by the Enforcement Directorate (ED).
Bhattacharya, the former chairperson of the West Bengal Board of Primary Education, was reportedly detained today after being questioned by ED officials during the course of the previous night regarding the teachers’ recruitment scam.
He will be produced before the court today. Bhattacharya is the assemblyman for the Palashipara district.
The West Bengal teachers recruitment scam case is being investigated by ED, and Bhattacharya had already been called in.
Notably, on September 30, the Supreme Court prolonged until further orders the temporary protection given to Bhattacharya in connection with the suspected irregularities in primary teachers’ requirement.
According to the court, Manik Bhattacharya’s temporary protection will last till further order. He was required to assist the investigation agency by the court.
In connection with the SSC (School Service Commission) fraud, the ED also detained Partha Chatterjee, a former education minister and minister of industries for West Bengal at the time.
