Kolkata, July 23:
Arpita Mukherjee, a close aide to Bengal minister Partha Chatterjee, was detained by the Enforcement Directorate on Saturday.
The arrest comes a day after Rs 20 crore in cash was found at her Kolkata home.
TMC leader Partha Chatterjee was detained by the financial investigation team earlier this morning in connection with the case. He later appeared before a judge.
With cash counting devices in hand, the ED officials went to Arpita Mukherjee’s home in Kolkata this morning. A truck from the RBI arrived in the afternoon with boxes to remove the enormous amount of cash, which was entirely in denominations of 500 and 2,000.
The cash found at Arpita Mukherjee’s home is thought to represent the proceeds of the SSC fraud, which the ED is currently looking into.
A number of places connected to the recruitment frauds involving the West Bengal Primary Education Board and West Bengal School Service Commission were searched by the Enforcement Directorate.
