Ranchi, Aug 26: The special PMLA court of Prabhat Kumar Sharma in Ranchi on Friday further extended the police remand of Jharkhand High Court advocate Rajiv Kumar for another four days. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) submitted a petition for extension of his police remand stating that the agency needs more time to question him.
The ED demanded his six-day remand but the court granted four days only. Rajiv Kumar was also presented before the PMLA court. Earlier the court had permitted the ED to get him on eight days of police remand effective from August 20. The ED is investigating an extortion case against him lodged by Kolkata based businessman Amit Agrawal at Kolkata in Bengal. Rajiv Kumar was taken from Alipur jail to Ranchi for questioning.
Kolkata police arrested Rajiv Kumar on July 31 on the charge of extorting money from Kolkata based businessman Amit Agrawal for giving him relief in the PIL 4290/21 related to shell companies. Kolkata police arrested along with Rs 50 Lakh cash which was allegedly extorted from Amit Agrawal.
The sources in the ED said that they wanted to confront Rajiv Kumar with another money laundering accused Prem Prakash also. It is suspected that Prem Prakash was aware of how Rajiv Kumar was allured and trapped.
