New Delhi, Sept 15: A court said on Thursday that Satyendar Jain, Delhi minister who was detained more than three months ago in connection with a money laundering investigation, will be questioned tomorrow regarding the capital’s since-retracted alcohol sales policy, which sparked an investigation into potential irregularities.

A mandate from Delhi’s Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena, a representative of the BJP-led government at the centre, has led the CBI and the Enforcement Directorate (ED), which looks into financial crimes, to look into the liquor policy.

Special CBI Court Judge Geetanjali Goel passes order for ED to interrogate Delhi Health Minister Satyendra Jain inside prison tomorrow, after ED sought 3 dates to question him in the liquor scam row.

In accordance with the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), Jain (57) was detained by the central investigation agency on May 30 in relation to alleged hawala transactions with a Kolkata-based company in 2015–16.

The CBI’s raids on Manish Sisodia, the deputy chief minister of Delhi, and Jain’s arrest in relation to the liquor policy have led to a severe dispute between the AAP and the BJP.

In Gujarat, the party’s election campaign makes extensive use of central investigation agencies’ actions against AAP ministers. The party asserts that because of public support for the party, the governing BJP is intimidating its ministers and impeding the development efforts of the Delhi government.
