In Uttar Pradesh and other states, Mukhtar Ansari is facing more than 50 criminal charges. The leader of the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) is presently detained at Uttar Pradesh’s Banda prison. For the previous two years, Ansari had been detained at Punjab’s Ropar jail on suspicion of extortion.
The CEO of a real estate company filed a complaint against him, and as a result, he was arrested for criminal intimidation and extortion (CEO).
Mukhtar Ansari garnered media attention in 2021 by using all of his connections to ensure that he avoided Uttar Pradesh. He was detained in Punjab for several months in connection with an alleged extortion case, though the police never filed charges against him. Repeated warrants for his removal to Uttar Pradesh were also disregarded by the Punjab Police.
Mukhtar Ansari reportedly feared that if he returned while Yogi Adityanath was serving as chief minister, he may be killed in a shootout with the Uttar Pradesh Police. He was eventually sent to the Banda jail in Uttar Pradesh, where he is now being held.
His son Abbas Ansari unexpectedly filed his nomination from Mau Sadar while he was about to run for his fourth Uttar Pradesh election from behind bars. Abbas Ansari, the son of Mukhtar Ansari, and Mau Sadar, an MLA, were both home on August 7 when the Lucknow Police conducted a raid there.
