New Delhi, Oct 4: Trinamool Congress (TMC) General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee has received a new summon from the Enforcement Directorate (ED). According to sources, he has been summoned to appear in the ED inquiry on October 9.
Previously, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) had issued a summons to Banerjee on October 3rd. Due to the party’s MGNREGA protests taking place in Delhi on that day, Banerjee did not show up at the ED office.
Banerjee claimed that it was a strategy employed by the central government, led by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), to suppress the protests.
“The fight against the deprivation of WB and its rightful dues shall persist regardless of the obstacles. No force on Earth can hinder my dedication to fight for the people of WB and their fundamental rights. I’ll b in Delhi joining the protest on Oct 2nd & 3rd. STOP ME IF U CAN!” Banerjee said in a post on ‘X’.

The TMC general secretary also claimed that the ED was scheduling summons on days when he had pre-announced public events.
“Earlier this month, the ED summoned me on a day coinciding with an important coordinating meeting of #INDIA. I dutifully appeared and complied with the served summons,” Banerjee stated in an earlier post on X.
Abhishek Banerjee was summoned by the ED under the provisions of Section 50 of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). Banerjee was served with a summons after federal investigators raided the office of “Leaps and Bounds Pvt Ltd,” which they alleged was “used for making dubious transactions running into crores of rupees.” The ED asserted that Banerjee holds the position of the company’s CEO.
In September, the ED had previously issued a summons to Banerjee concerning his involvement in the alleged teacher recruitment scam.
