Koderma, July 17: Eight people have gone missing after a boat capsized at Panchkhero dam on the border of Koderma and Giridih districts under the Markacho block of Koderma. According to the information, all the people are residents of Kheto village under Rajdhanwar block of Giridih district and had come to visit Panchkhero Dam. Notably, eight people drowned after the boat capsized at 11 am on Sunday.

Sources have claimed that the boat had 10 people on it, of which a sailor and a young man named Pradeep Singh were able to swim out, whereas the rest are yet to be found. After receiving information, the local police administration swung into action. The locals have also started efforts to rescue people from the dam.

Notably, five years ago the dam was set up in the Panchkhero river of Markacho. Since then, the dam has been a spot of attraction for tourists and locals in surrounding areas. A large number of people from nearby districts visit the dam regularly.

Earlier, a boat capsized in the Birgaon Barakar river of Jamtara on February 24 wherein all but four people had drowned. Notably, a total of 14 people had passed away that day. All the victims of the accident were traveling from Dhanbad, Nirsa, and Bidabediya Ghat to Jamtara Birgaon, during which the boat lost balance due to sudden strong winds, storms and rain, which resulted in the accident.
