Mumbai, July 4: After two weeks of political unrest in Maharashtra, the Eknath Shinde government won the trust vote on Monday with 164 votes, one day after Rahul Narvekar was chosen as the speaker of the Maharashtra Assembly. Shiv Sena’s Uddhav Thackeray faction filed a new petition in the Supreme Court on Monday against the assembly speaker’s choice to recognise a new whip for the party.
Fadnavis asserted earlier on Saturday that the Shinde government will demonstrate its majority with 166 votes. The BJP currently holds 106 seats in the 288-member Maharashtra Assembly, while Shinde is in charge of 39 Shiv Sena rebel lawmakers as well as some Independents.
