Ramgarh, July 4: A pet dog prevented the theft of lakhs of rupees from an ATM at Chauparan block on GT Road in Hazaribagh district on Sunday night.
An interstate gang of thieves tried to target the Axis Bank ATM. There is no security arrangement in this densely populated area’s ATM.
The thieves entered the ATM during the night and tried to break into its locker. They also rubbed cream on the CCTV camera to hide their identities.
While their efforts were on to break the locker; the pet dog of the owner of the ATM room Pradeep Barnwal, started barking constantly which made everyone in the house wake up. This created panic among the thieves and they all ran away, leaving their tools in the ATM.
Later, the incident was informed to the police. Several police forces including DSP Nazir Akhtar and the station in-charge Shambhu Sharan Ishwar reached the spot and started an investigation.
The DSP said,” We are investigating the case. The negligence of the bank management is also visible.”
There are five ATMs in Chauparan along the GT Road. Of these, more than Rs 40 lakhs have been robbed from Singharwana SBI ATM twice. Rs 26 lakhs were looted on March 17 this year.
