New Delhi: The Election Commission of India is poised to announce the schedule for the upcoming assembly elections in a press conference scheduled for 3 PM today. The official invite sent to the media did not specify which states would be included in this announcement.

With the legislative assembly terms of Haryana and Maharashtra concluding on November 3 and November 26, respectively, speculation is rife that the dates for these states may be revealed. Additionally, there is anticipation that the Election Commission might address the timing of the assembly polls in Jammu and Kashmir, with the Supreme Court having set a deadline of September 30 for these elections.

In recent weeks, the Election Commission has conducted visits to Jammu and Kashmir and Haryana to assess the poll preparedness. However, a similar visit to Maharashtra is yet to take place.

The announcement today is expected to set the stage for a crucial electoral season, with the political landscape in these states likely to shift significantly in the coming months.
