Elephants kill elderly man in Hazaribag village

Hazaribag, Aug.12: Elephants killed an elderly man in Bedmakka forest of Tatijharia on Saturday morning.  75-year-old Rameshwar Thakur, a resident of Jharpo, was trampled to death by elephants in the Bedmakka forest of Tatijharia.

According to the information, Rameshwar Thakur had gone towards the Bedmakka forest on Saturday morning when about ten elephants surrounded him and killed him. On the information of his death, a large number of villagers reached the Bedmakka forest. They brought the body to the village. After his death, his wife, two sons, daughter-in-law and other family members are in state-of-shock.

Jharpo chief Shibu Prasad Soni has demanded compensation for the kin of the deceased. Herds of elephants are still in the Bedmakka forest. The villagers of the surrounding areas including Jharpo, Narayanpur, Bedmakka, Simradhab, Amanari, Karamba, Pooto have been alerted.

Forest officials said they are trying to chase the herd deep into the forest. They promised compensation to the family.
