Ramgarh, Jan 17: The herd of wild elephants roaming in the Gola forest area is becoming more violent day by day. The officers and personnel of the Forest Department are proving unsuccessful in providing security to the general public from the riots of elephants.
A herd of elephants created a ruckus in Sargadih village late at night on Sunday. It created an atmosphere of chaos in the village throughout the night. The villagers had to hide in a strong hideout to save their lives.
Elephants broke the houses of half a dozen poor families including former Mukhiya Subhashini Mahato and trampled the crops in the fields of many people along with eating paddy-rice and other grains kept in the house.
“A herd of elephants first attacked the house of former Mukhiya Subhashini Mahato. At that time the mukhiya and his family members were sleeping. The elephants made a big hole in the wall of their house and devoured the grains kept inside,” said a villager.
Meanwhile, the former Mukhiya and family members somehow saved their lives by hiding in the corner of the house. After this the elephants damaged the houses of Ashok Singh, Alakh Singh, Makay Nayak, Umesh Mahto, Hanua Mahto and ate the grains kept in the house. The elephants also broke the boundary wall of the local area.
