New York: In a strong show of support, tech billionaire Elon Musk has endorsed former U.S. President Donald Trump, arguing that Trump’s victory is essential for preserving freedom and meritocracy in America. Musk’s comments came in a post on X (formerly Twitter), where he expressed his views on the upcoming presidential election.
“I have never been materially active in politics before, but this time I think civilization as we know it is on the line. If we want to preserve freedom and a meritocracy in America, then Trump must win,” Musk wrote in his post.
Musk’s statement was a response to a post praising him for his ability to synthesize complex information. This was in reply to another user’s accusation that Musk was spreading misinformation and aligning himself with the “MAGA cult,” a reference to Trump’s campaign slogan, “Make America Great Again.”
The Tesla CEO has been vocal about his support for Trump since a campaign rally in Pennsylvania, where Trump was shot at but survived the incident. Musk praised Trump’s resilience, comparing him to former President Theodore Roosevelt. “I fully endorse President Trump and hope for his rapid recovery,” Musk stated while sharing a video of Trump raising his fist after the assassination attempt.
Musk’s support for Trump has been evident through various actions, including his willingness to serve in Trump’s cabinet and conducting an exclusive interview with Trump on X. This move came years after the platform banned Trump for “incitement of violence” following the January 6 Capitol riots.
Recently, Musk also took aim at Trump’s political rival, Vice President Kamala Harris. He shared an AI-generated image of Harris on X, mocking her by suggesting she would become a “communist dictator on day one.” This was in response to Harris’s criticism of Trump, where she accused him of promising to be a dictator if re-elected.
In the past, Musk had supported Joe Biden in the 2020 Presidential Election and even worked closely with the Obama administration. He also voted for Hillary Clinton in the 2016 election against Trump, indicating his varied political endorsements over the years.
