New Delhi, Jan 22: Neuralink, a brain-machine interface startup founded by Elon Musk, is preparing to begin clinical trials in which brain chips will be implanted in humans. The company is hiring a clinical trial director, according to dailymail.co.uk, who says the appropriate applicant will “work closely with some of the most innovative doctors and top engineers, as well as working with Neuralink’s first Clinical Trial participants.”
“As the clinical trial director, you will work closely with some of the most innovative doctors and top engineers, as well as working with Neuralink`s first clinical trial participants,” the advert for the role in Fremont, California, says.
“You will lead and help build the team responsible for enabling Neuralink`s clinical research activities and developing the regulatory interactions that come with a fast-paced and ever-evolving environment.”
Neuralink has demonstrated their brain implant in pigs and monkeys since going public in 2017.
The project’s main goal is to create a direct connection between a brain and a computer in order to overcome the limitations of Artificial Intelligence (AI) by stitching threads to an implanted brain chip using a “sewing machine-like” technology.
Musk has stated that Neuralink’s brain chip technology would allow individuals to seamlessly stream music into their heads.
Musk verified the capability in a recent Twitter interaction with a user who inquired: “Can we listen to music directly from our chips if we utilise Neuralink? This is a fantastic feature.”
A simple “yes” was Musk’s response.
He’s also stated that the chip will be able to modulate hormone levels, which could aid with anxiety reduction and other things.
Musk has frequently decried the over-reliance on artificial intelligence (AI) and the possible dangers it entails. He recently asserted that AI will be “vastly smarter” than humans by 2025, and that it will surpass mankind.
