Anakapalle: A devastating explosion at a pharmaceutical company in the Achutapuram Special Economic Zone (SEZ) in Anakapalle, Andhra Pradesh, has left four people dead and several others injured. The tragic incident took place at the Escientia Company’s plant during lunchtime, potentially averting a more significant disaster.
District Collector Vijaya Krishnan confirmed the casualties and stated that the injured have been promptly moved to NTR Hospital for medical attention. Contrary to initial fears of a reactor blast, officials suspect the explosion was triggered by an electrical fire.
The explosion’s timing, coinciding with lunch, may have spared many more lives, though the aftermath was still severe, with smoke billowing from the site and spreading to nearby villages. Visuals from the scene depict thick plumes of smoke, highlighting the magnitude of the blast.
District Collector Vijaya Krishnan and Superintendent of Police are en route to the location to oversee relief and rescue operations, which are currently in progress. Authorities have successfully rescued 13 individuals who were trapped inside the plant at the time of the explosion.
As the investigation continues, the focus remains on ensuring the safety of all workers and providing aid to the affected families.
