Jamshedpur, Dec 16 : The recent inspection by a Kolhan University ( KU) team led by vice-chancellor Gangadhar Panda at the newly constituted Jamshedpur Women’s University raised several eye-brows.
The KU team went to the campus of Jamshedpur Women’s University on Monday and inspected the files and other infrastructure. The team had spent considerable time on the campus of the Sidhgora-based Jamshedpur Women’s University. The surprise inspection raised several questions.
” Every University has its own set of rules which govern it. Kolhan University officials can carry out an inspection at the new Jamshedpur Women’s University only after prior permission from either Raj Bhawan ( Governor’s House) or the state higher education department, ” pointed out a staff of the Jamshedpur Women’s University.
The Governor happens to be the chancellor of all the universities across the state.
Sources said earlier too Kolhan University officials had inspected the newly constructed Jamshedpur Women’s University.
The vice-chancellor could not be contacted for his comments on the controversy.
But, a senior member of Kolhan University Syndicate Rajesh Shukla failed to buy the argument.
” The new Jamshedpur Women’s University is yet to become fully functional. Though the university has been notified, appointments of vice-chancellor and a registrar are yet to be made. Currently, Kolhan University is looking after various affairs of the women’s university including payments of staff and other things. Therefore, no questions should be raised for inspections, ” explained Shukla.
Notably, in 2017 the Union government approved to elevate the status of Jamshedpur Women’s College to that of a women’s university.
The university is the first women’s university not only in Jharkhand but among other states of Bihar, Bengal, and Chhattisgarh. Such a move was taken to encourage women’s education.
The campus of the university is spread around 25 acres of land. The Centre had allocated around Rs 55 crore for the women’s university project.
