Ranchi: Legendary Jharkhand leader and Dishom Guru Shibu Soren was laid to rest with full state honours on Tuesday. His final rites were performed at his native village Nemra, where his son and Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren lit the funeral pyre. The atmosphere was heavy with emotion as thousands gathered to bid farewell to their beloved leader.
Even the Skies Wept During Guruji’s Final Journey
After being kept for public viewing at the Jharkhand Assembly in Ranchi, Guruji’s mortal remains were taken to Nemra village. From Ranchi to Nemra, crowds lined the roads, waiting patiently for a last glimpse of the iconic leader. Mourners stood silently, many with tears in their eyes, as the funeral procession passed by.
Grief in Nemra as People Say Goodbye to Their Leader
In Nemra, where Shibu Soren spent his formative years, sorrow engulfed the entire village. From mud walls to mango trees, it felt like every part of Nemra was grieving. The silence was broken only by chants of “Shibu Soren Amar Rahein” (Long live Shibu Soren). In a symbolic moment, the earth was soaked with rain as if nature itself was mourning.
Massive Public Turnout at the Cremation
A massive crowd gathered in Nemra for the final rites. Traditional rituals were performed before the cremation, and villagers showered flowers along the procession path. The emotional scenes were overwhelming as people folded their hands in prayer, many speechless, only expressing their feelings through tears.
Top National Leaders Pay Their Respects
Several political leaders across party lines attended the funeral. Congress national president Mallikarjun Kharge and Lok Sabha Opposition Leader Rahul Gandhi reached Nemra from Ranchi by road. Union Ministers Jual Oram and Annapurna Devi, TMC MP Derek O’Brien, MP Pappu Yadav, BJP leader Arjun Munda, AJSU chief Sudesh Mahto, DGP Anurag Gupta, and other Jharkhand ministers and legislators were present.
“Jharkhand’s soul walked down a muddy path,” said a mourner. “And disappeared in a blur of tears.”
The farewell was not just a ritual; it was an emotional chapter closing for Jharkhand—a final goodbye to a man who embodied its soul.
