New Delhi, Oct.30: Farmers have agreed to allow only two-wheelers and ambulances at the Tikri border, where police have lifted the barricade that had been in place for the previous 11 months due to farmers’ protests. They’ve also decided that the border will be open just between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m.
The Delhi Police began clearing barriers at the Tikri border crossing site, where farmers have been protesting the Centre’s three farm legislation, on Thursday night, with sources indicating that one carriageway of the road will reopen in the coming days.
The process of removing the barriers began when the Supreme Court issued an order on October 21 ordering the unblocking of routes that had been closed to commuters due to anti-farm laws rallies at Delhi’s border ports of Singhu, Tikri, and Ghazipur.
Thousands of farmers attempted to breach the Delhi border in November last year, prompting the authorities to erect multiple tiers of roadblocks, complete with gigantic nails and concrete blocks.
Meanwhile, BKU has published a statement urging to farmers to come to the location as soon as possible to boost the agitation after hearing that police had removed barricades. They said there is a conspiracy against the stir and they will fight it.
