Amritsar, Oct.18: Farmers have held ‘Rail Roko’ agitation on Monday in several regions of Punjab and Haryana, seeking the expulsion of Union Minister Ajay Mishra, whose son is the principal offender in the Lakhimpur Kheri violence case. Protesting farmers in Punjab began blocking four parts of the Ferozpur railway division around 5.15 a.m., according to an official spokesperson.
Farmers in Haryana sat on railway tracks in Bahadurgarh to show their displeasure with the violence. To maintain security, the administration also stationed the Rapid Action Force (RAF) at Sonipat Railway Station.
Meanwhile, the police in Uttar Pradesh have enacted Section 144 of the CrPC, which makes it illegal to collect more than four individuals in one place. The authorities have also warned that individuals who take part in the agitation will face severe consequences. Those detected breaking the order or attempting to “disrupt normalcy” would be charged under the National Security Act, according to the police earlier in the day.
