Dhanbad, Aug 9:  Half a dozen criminals attacked an eminent doctor’s son with an iron rod and lathi on Dhanbad–Bokaro road at Nichitpur under Katras police station of the district on Sunday night.
A police official said the incident occurred around  10.30 pm. Chandan Kumar, son of eminent doctor Dr Umashankar Singh, was returning to his house after attending a Lions Club meeting when five criminals laced with iron rods and lathi attacked his car near Nichitpur Basti More.
Criminals smashed the front glass of the car with iron rods. Chandan Kumar’s daughter, who was also sitting in the car with him, had a miraculous escape in the incident. Chandan Kumar drove the car to the nearby Rajganj police station and informed the officials.
Getting information, Deputy Superintendent of Police Nisha Murmu, officer-in-charge of Katras police station Rash Bihari Lal reached Rajganj police station and escorted Chandan Kumar to his house.
Chandan said as his car reached Nichitpur Basti  More five criminals who were waiting there attacked his car with rods and lathi. “They abused and threatened to kill  me for lodging an FIR against  Karu Yadav, a local  JMM leader. Though I requested them not to use the rod, as my daughter was also in the car they did not listen,” he said.

Dr Umashankar Singh had on July 21  lodged an FIR at Katras police station against  Karu Yadav for sabotaging his Nichitpur Hospital after the death of a patient.

DSP  Nisha Murmu said that a complaint has been lodged against unidentified criminals and police are investigating the incident. “ Those who were involved in the attack would be nabbed soon”, she said.

Meanwhile, State president of the Indian Medical Association (IMA) Dr AK Singh has expressed concern over the attack on the doctor’s family in Dhanbad and said that a delegation would meet the senior superintendent of police (SSP) for the protection of medicos so that they could attend patients in congenial atmosphere.
