Ranchi: Jharkhand Finance Minister Radhakrishna Kishore has written to the Director General of Police raising serious concerns over the functioning of the police department and its security arrangements, stating that if the allegations being made by a police family are true, it is a matter of concern for the entire police system.
Minister Alleges Misuse of Police Resources for Influential Individuals
In his letter, the Finance Minister said that police bodyguards had been provided, against rules, to several influential individuals, land mafia figures and those involved in illegal mining businesses in the state. Describing this as a misuse of police force resources, he demanded a fair and impartial investigation into the matter.
Kishore Expresses Displeasure Over Lack of Response to Earlier Letters
Radhakrishna Kishore expressed dissatisfaction over not receiving responses to several letters he had sent earlier, calling it a sign of lack of accountability and communication within the department. He clarified that his request for an additional vehicle was not for personal convenience but was made keeping in mind the safety of the security personnel deployed with him, adding that this should not be misrepresented.
Minister Calls for Review of Security Standards for Police Personnel
In the letter, Kishore noted that adequate budget is available for the modernisation of the state police, yet the current security arrangements do not appear effective. He said that if police personnel themselves do not feel secure, it is a serious indication for the entire system. The Finance Minister urged the DGP to review outdated security protocols and implement new, practical security standards, stressing that the safety of police personnel should be the top priority and that policies must be updated in line with changing times.
